[‘Sahih Muslim’; 1/503]

“The first thing which the people will be called to account for of their actions on the Day of Judgment is their prayer. If it is in a good state, he is successful and has passed. If it is in a bad state, he has failed and has lost. Allah will then Say: ‘See if there are some optional prayers that can compensate for the deficiency in his obligatory prayer!’ Then, all the actions will be dealt with similarly.”

[‘Sahih at-Tirmidhi’; 1/130]

“Allah Says: “My servant approaches Me with nothing more beloved to Me than what I have made obligatory upon him, and My servant keeps drawing nearer to Me with voluntary deeds until I Love him. And when I love him, I am his hearing with which he hears, his sight with which he sees, his hand with which he seizes, and his foot with which he walks. If he asks Me, I will surely give to him, and if he seeks refuge in Me, I will surely protect him.””

[‘Fath al-Bari’; # 6502]

[‘Tafsir al-Qurtubi’]

5 – ‘Isha’

[‘Tafsir al-Qurtubi’]

6 – Duha

“Whoever prays four rak’ahs of Duha prayer, and before the first, he prays four (for a total of eight), a house is built for him in Paradise.”

What has caused you to enter Hell?

What has caused you to enter Hell?

by Ibn Abi Ukhti

بسم الله الرحمان الرحيم

الحمد الله

السلام عليكم و رحمت الله و بركاته

What has caused you to enter Hell? A question not asked by the people of this world rather a question asked by those people who would be in Jannah. As Allah سبحانه و تعالى has mentioned in Surah al Mudaththir:

Every person is a pledge for what he has earned. Except those on the Right, (i.e. the pious true believers of Islamic Monotheism). In Gardens (Paradise) they will ask one another about Al-Mujrimun (polytheists, criminals, disbelievers, etc.), (And they will say to them): “What has caused you to enter Hell?” {Ayaat 38-42}

Just imagine this scene when insha’Allah you’ll be in Jannah rejoicing and reclining on green cushions and beautiful mattresses. What answer do you expect? What type of response do you anticipate from the people of Jahannam? Do you think they might say, “We went to Jahannam because of our sins,” and that’s it! No no no no no, that’s not the case. Their answer contains certain specific sins which are rampant nowadays. Let’s see what Allah سبحانه و تعالى has said in the Qur’an about their reply:

They will say: “We were not of those who used to offer their Salat (prayers). “Nor we used to feed Al-Miskin (the poor). And we used to talk falsehood (all that which Allah hated) with vain talkers. And we used to belie the Day of Recompense. Until there came to us (the death) that is certain.” {Surah al Mudaththir, Ayaat 43-47}

Now just look at their sins, aren’t they very much widespread? Look around you. Everywhere you see people are indulging in or even better to say is that they are drowning in these sins. Did you know that not offering Salah is a major major sin if not kufr? As Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said in a very famous hadith as reported by Imam Muslim رحمه الله تعالى, “All that stands between a person and kufr is his not praying.” How much more important can this issue get? Ask anyone, even the 5 year-old Muslim child will know that Salah is the second pillar of Islam and why then people don’t offer it is completely beyond me! Maybe it’s because people are just too lazy to stand before their Lord for just 60 minutes out 24 hours. Just 60 minutes, which is around 4 % of the whole day. If one can’t spend this much time in the worship of Allah then what can be said of this person?

Now let’s move onto the second point, which is not feeding the Miskin. Did you know 1.5 million people in Ghazzah alone are without food, proper medication and electricity? Yeah, you’ve read it right; it is 1.5 million Muslims, our brothers and sisters surviving without the necessities of life. And it is just Ghazzah not the whole of Palestine. What about the other parts of Muslim Ummah? Like the people suffering from the famine in Darfur, the cyclone in Bangladesh and the earthquake in Kashmir? Let me take you guys back to 8th century and see what was the situation in the time of the of ‘Umar bin ‘Abdul ‘Aziz رحمه الله تعالى. During his caliphate, people would go around giving Zakaah to others and no one would accept it. No one! Can you believe that?! Do you know the reason why? It was because everyone would pay their share in Zakaah and Sadaqah. SubhanAllah, how perfect is the law of Allah سبحانه و تعالى! If we, the whole Muslim Ummah, would obey this command of Allah سبحانه و تعالى look how different our situation would be. Allah سبحانه و تعالى says in the Qur’an, in Surah al Baqarah:

Who is he that will lend to Allah a goodly loan so that He may multiply it to him many times? And it is Allah that decreases or increases (your provisions), and unto Him you shall return. {Ayaah # 245}

In this ayah, as mentioned by Imam ibn Kathir رحمه الله تعالى, Allah encourages His servants to spend in His cause. Quoted below are the rewards Allah سبحانه و تعالى will give to the one who spends in His way:

The likeness of those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah is as the likeness of a grain (of corn); it grows seven ears, and each ear has a hundred grains. Allah gives manifold increase to whom He wills {Surah al Baqarah, ayaah 261]

And a hadith of Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم:

“Sadaqah (charity) does not decrease wealth.” [Sahih Muslim]

I would ignore the last reason of why those people are in Jahannam since we are الحمد الله Muslims so it doesn’t apply to us. Now the third and the last point that is people heavily partaking in vain talk. One of things a Muslim guarding his tongue from vain talk will enjoy on the day of Judgement is that he will be closest to Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم as mentioned in the hadith below:

The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said, “The most beloved to me and the closest to me on the Day of Resurrection will be those of you who have the best attitudes. And the hateful to me and the furthest from me on the Day of Resurrection will be the thartharoon, al-mutashaddiqoon and al-mutafayhiqoon.” The Sahabahعليهم رضوان الله تعالى said, “O’ Messenger of Allah, we understand thartharoon and al-mutashaddiqoon, so who are the al-mutafayhiqoon?” The Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم said, “Those who arrogant in their speech.”

[Sunan at-Tirmidhi]

Thartharoon are the people who indulge themselves in vain, futile talk.

So do you want to be near Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم on the day of Judgement and be in Jannah? I know everyone will say, “Duuuuh as if we want to be away from the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم!!!” If you say so then practise it!

Allah سبحانه و تعالى mentions in Surah al Mu’minun:

Successful indeed are the believers. Those who offer their Salat (prayers) with all solemnity and full submissiveness. And those who turn away from Al-Laghw (dirty, false, evil vain talk, falsehood, and all that Allah has forbidden). {Ayaat# 1-3}

Successful are the ones who turned away from all useless talk. Look, here Allah سبحانه و تعالى is telling us the solution Himself on how to be the one who will inherit Jannat al Firdous which is mentioned in this very Surah as we go on further in ayah# 11. I can go on and on this topic but I’d like to leave you with one hadith of the Prophet صلى الله عليه وسلم:

“The one who has remained silent has saved himself” [Sunan at-Tirmidhi, Musnad Ahmad, Sunan ad-Darimi]

Please do not take this as a personal attack on anyone. It is a reminder for me first and then for anybody else. May Allah سبحانه و تعالى forgive me if I have wronged anyone in any sense. Allahumma Ameen, Allahumma Ameen.
